My 59 baja still has the standard wiper's / motor from when it was 6v. I have a resister in the line to drop it to 6v for the motor which used to
work fine.
I have just got the car back on the road and have noticed that when i use the wipers they do not always turn off when i switch them off .....
What could be causing this and what is the remedy ?
Check the self-park switch inside the wiper motor
Another thought, you didn't mix up the wires to the wiper motor, did you?:o

Any idea how to get to the self park switch ? i had a quick look a while ago but couldnt see anything to check on the motor. The wires are definately
right
I think AUto bug 68 wired the car
(check other post!)
EAsy fix - just park it in the front yard
Sometimes i just amaze myself how helpful i am!
HAHAHAHAAHHAAHAAH GOOD ONE BARRY!
2 things come to mind. You wiper motor is old and in need of replacing or 2. You need to drop the voltage a bit. Putting some resistors in will
solve it.
How do I know. Mine do the same thing. I can't be bothered fixing it. I just put the indicator or the brakes lights on and that stops the
wipers.
A MUCH better idea that a dropping resistor is a little circuit I have on my web site - it's a current limiter matched to the 6v wiper
requirements - it uses just 4 components from Dick Smith etc.
Rock steady wiper speed, does not get boiling hot, and with a little ingenuity it can give you 2 speed 6v wipers!

Thanks Rob, I was looking for that article the other day.

Well, I've never owned a 59, but other vehicles I've worked on have a switch operated by a cam in the end of the wiper motor, on the back end of the driveshaft where the gears are. Often there is a plate that can be removed by undoing a few screws. I hope that helps with a '59.
its crap inside teh switch.... spray some CRC contact cleaner inside it... or wriggle the switch on n off a few times.
Ta guy's .... day off otmorrow so ill see if i can fix it
