WHATS AN GAUZE ENGINE COWL, AND IS IT REALLY NECESSARY FOR A ROAD WORTHY CERTIFICATE? (sorry about the caps, but it gets attenti ยป
From what i think a gauze engine cowl is, its the wire/cage mesh that covers the engine of a baja or buggy.
However, (Cause personally it looks crap), is it really necessary to have one? Can you just have the engine sitting there without being covered by
mesh cage? Of course, there would be bars in the way on the rear, and the kits for buggies pretty much cover most of the engine, so is it really
necessary?
[Thats if my thoughts of what a gauze engine cowl is are correct. If my definition of what it is happens to be incorrect, please correct me.THANKS]

It's the cage that stops little fingers from getting to the pullys and fan belt.. I think you should have one
fairly sure its a requirement in nsw for a blue slip
How do u access the engine with the cage in the way?
it normally fits over the generator pulley to the main pulley on the crank
you take it off then put it back on when finished :duh

I am in the final throes of getting a buggy ready for rego in ACT, and my engineer does the paperwork for both ACT and NSW.
I am required to fit a 'pulley cover', which can be of various designs, but must cover the pulley to keep little hands from wandering. I don't
need to have a full cage over the engine, but can do if I want.......as long as the pulley cover is there.
I was going to make one, until I found that I could order one through my VW mechanic, who gets them from an off-road dealer somewhere (its a catalog
item), for about $70...including the hardware to fit it. Nice!
Yeah, what im refering to must be the pully cover. I though it was the huge mesh cage over the whole engine. I must be wrong then, cause i was
scratching my head saying "WTF! why the hell are these aussie buggies and bajas driving on the road without these large cages?"
I have however seen a few with the giant cages over the whole engine, but those that didn't had the pulley cover. So it must be the pully cover that
i need. THANK GOD!
I hate those large cages, (personally). Why get a beautiful engine if u can't show it off.
Thanks everybody.
So, yeah. I can understand a pully cover but not an entire cage.
I though the Gauze Engine Cowl was just the large cage.
