Whats better?
If I were to use a subaru 2.5 litre, would the motor registry pass it on inspection?
Where could i put the radiator?
[Edited on 26-4-2005 by vw54]
Once again, go easy on the CAPS LOCK
I assume you mean the EJ25. It is a technically superior engine, more power, torque, longevity, less maintainence and cheaper. You are right about
watercooling, you will have to figure out where to position the radiator and how to run lines etc. Probably will also have to modify your fuel supply
system for EFI. Don't know about actual fitment in the engine bay, but seeing as it is a buggy it is a lot less troublesome than a full bodied
sedan. There are plenty of kits to fit the EJ engines to the VW tranny.
The type 4 would be probably lighter and smaller, would keep it aircooled, easier to do initially, cost more, less power, more maintanence.
the better is whatever you determine suits your needs. Seeing it's a buggy if it was me I'd go scooby.
try talking to pete wood. his buggy has a scooby in it
putting aside the power diffs. it would depend on who you cruise with, as on hte beach if you break you need your mates to help fix. if they crew you
are with are all aircooled, then you are pretty much stuck if you go subaru.
each time i have been, there has alwyas been a breakdown or two, and as we are all aircooled we carry bits for our aircooled, so we are able to help
each other out. something to think about anyway.
I'm currently rebuilding a buggy and I'm putting an EJ in it. The biggest problem you have is radiator and where you are going to put it.
Cooling on a rear mounted radiator seems to be a problem. As per Pete Woods buggy. So you kinda need to mount one on the front which can make it
difficult.
At this stage it is new ground and not many people have done it, but there are allot of people about to do it it. So if you can come up with a way you
think will work give it a crack, otherwise wait about 12 months until some of the current EJ powered buggy builds are done and find out what works.
Yeah, seems difficult. I think I may go with the type IV.
However, whats this "Scooby"?

Yeah, i get ur drift. I suppose the type IV would be best, cheap easy, just slap it in.

Mate, just a quick suggestion. instead of posting a shit load of questions, do a bit of searching, bot hthere and places like the STF .... plethora of
info and u dont have to type a thing
cheers
adz
Ah wake up, this is research. There is nothing that can overcome the knowledge gained by this site. In this site/forum I can actually converse to
people who drive these things every day and who know by 1st hand experience how these things go, work and run.
Its a much better resource than some dodgy lieing website of some company trying to suk you into buying their running gear by providing biased,
exaggerated information about how good it is.
At least at this place, I can get many opinions and attitudes from all locations and backgrounds to get a great idea into these things.
Anyways, what the hell do you think the purpose of a forum is for? ITS FOR CONVERSING!!! AND QUESTIONING IS CONVERSING, SO GET OVER IT!!!!
My real question is, why do you have such a problem with my questions I ask. If you don't like them, then don't read them. Simple as that.
i think you will find adam isnt bagging you but suggesting that u do a bit of reading first as most of the questions u have been asking have already been covered in the past. use the search feature and look for the topics you are inquiring about before asking a question and u may get your answer before typing anything.
Now Anthiron, thats all what ADAM had to say. Your post Anthiron is much friendlier and approachable and I feel no offense or bag from that.
Adam needs to be more like you.
mynameischris88. It's not the fact your conversing that's the problem, it's that your asking questions that have all been answered before and
you're to lazy to go and search for your answers.
And I'd suggest you settle down and start treating people on here like you would if you were talking to them face to face. If you think this forum is
such a great place, you had best settle down or you may find yourself not welcome here anymore.
That is quite narrow minded to jump to conclusions (AGAIN, which you seem to have a habit of) to think of me as lazy. I laugh at you, your hilariously
dissing yourself by your misunderstanding.
Its called "not knowing of such a function". Now that it has been mentioned, I now know to search.
And I am not dishing out crap, (Cause i got morals, compared to OTHER people) I am simply defending my self and rightfully rebutting the false
accusations that some (unethical) people place upon my shoulders.
Learn from your mistake, or otherwise continue to be foolish. (And I will remain laughing. HA HA)
can you explain what was narrow minded about what mike m said please as im starting to get confused with your random baggings of people who know so much. try looking on http://www.shoptalkforums.com for some of the thing you are looking for
Narrow minded: Does not see the wide picture, can not see outside the square he lives etc. Only sees one answer, one path. Hence jumps to conclusions
because he doesn't realise what other meanings of actions, words and languages exist, what other cultures, ways of sayings are around besides his
own. etc. etc.
By all means, you could honestly say that my judgement of him being narrow minded could be harsh. But at the time, I felt somewhat offended to be
accused of bullying those who the word chump refers to. However, the definition that i brought up appears to not be in wide use, and from this, i
appologise to those who may have been offended due to there misunderstanding of my reference of the term.
I am not bagging, i am rebutting due to my feelings of being offended.
Im sure MikeM is a knowledgable person, and NO, im not bagging his knowledge, and im sure he is a good fella. I'm just saying that I was not refering
to his definition of 'Chump'.
:blah
how can you not know of such a feature? ok ill enlighten you mate all forums have a bar at the top with mostly the same features ie new posts, gallery and search. the last one is very important cause it means that when people get on the they can look for past posts about things that interest them even dredge them up from a long time ago it also means that there arent double ups on posts
Well, my concern is not to check the whole workings of this forum, but to use it to obtain information.
Its not like you go and spend hours reading a whole car manual when you only want to know how to do something simple. Its the same with this forum.
Now that it has been mentioned, i now know of its presense (the search function that is).
My goal is not to be a forum l337, but to get information in regards to buggies.
Anyways, haven't you heard that it is wrong to judge somebody. you don't know my background, my life or where i come from. Its quite an arogant and
ignorant action (so dont do it). [however, it is just to judge actions, but i feel that mikeM is judging me personally].

I'll say it...Chris you are a fuckwit.
The 6 or so ppl on this one thread have more knowledge and know how in their big toes then you have in your intire body..
So I would strongly suggest, shut-up and listen to what ppl are trying to tell you.
because to put it simply, they know and you know SHIT...
true. thats some good wisdom.
ok, Hi, im Chris [Hi everybody]
I had a mate who owned a late vw beetle in the backyard of his acerage. He told me to get in, and we hooned around the back yard fishtaling and having
the best time of our lives. That was when i got hooked, bait, line and sinker (or however it goes)
So i looked into it on the internet. (beetles that is). I became adicted, [literally] craving to see or know more about them every day. My want for a
Torana faded quickly, and it was vw all the way.
Then during my search through carsales.com.au, i came across a vw beetle based buggy. At first glance, i was like WOWWWWWOWOWOW! I wanted that, I
could kill for that. It was going to be my first car, even though it would probably take 4 years + to get it.
I searched the internet more, with the craving growing. 1st, i came across http://www.beachbuggy.com.au. A beach buggy provider at Corrumbin (south Queensland). I loved them. But they weren't as
nifty/sporty/sparkly as i wanted it to be.
So my search continued. And out came http://www.sharpbuilt.com.au. Yes, oh Yes,
i wanted one of theirs. a GS Limo Sportsman with a GS Limo Offroad chassis/running gear. And from there on, months of research has developed my juicy
brain up to be prepared for the construction of the kit. (however, the one om planning to get is semi-preconstructed.)
So from there, i wanted more info, looking for donor chassis and pricing them. And when i came to quieries i couldn't find answers to, i emailed
KlubVWoffroad for help. They refered me to your guys, saying that you guys were the ones who would be best to help me.
And here i am, still researching and dreaming. Pretending that my mums ford laser is a buggy, imagining driving in it, thinking of what i would do
with it.
My goals in getting this buggy is to stand out of the crowd. Not to be some wanna be cool ganster, but to be an individual, to be me. I want a vehicle
that has character, that is fun (especially after checking out KlubVWoffroads video clips of the buggies having fun in the dunes). I want to get into
the offroad concept, have fun. I want to show off my individuality and turn heads.
I want a car that will also be able to handle rough terrain, rough conditions. You never know what terrible things you may come across when traveling.
(floods, storms etc.) I also want to achieve something in life, have a decent hobby. Building a buggy is a challenge for me (well a start) and gives
me something to do for fun. Whether its adding this, modifying this, starting a new project, going for a sunday drive or joining a club. This is my
goal/ambition in obtaining a buggy.
My background. Well, i am in year 12 in school at the moment. Im an Australian, white caucasian, Scottish, Irish, italian descent (from my great great
grand parents), i go to St. Laurence's College, South Brisbane. I attended St. Matthews primary. I got 5 As and 3 Bs in my last report card (not bad
for an OP ay?) and attend the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Information Technology, English, Maths B, Art & Religion.
I plan to go to university next year and obtain a degree in Architecture. I have no enemies, have a lot of life stories (when it comes to
embarrassment and girlfriends), have great friends and hate drugs, smoking, strong-alcoholism.
I see myself as being friendly, just, sometimes wierd and random, intellegent, creative, and accepting of all peoples from all cultures and am willing
to learn. etc. etc. (I'm being honest, not up myself).
I also work at Byrning Spears and happen to be lucky enough to be the only male working there.
I am only a couple of months in experience when it comes to vw beetles and buggies, so i haven't got much knowledge when it comes to the location of
information. And this is also my first forum i have ever joined. (hence why i don't have much knowledge with the use of a forum, like this one)
So there you are, a little bit of info about myself.
good on ya phat rat.......i agree with ya
Sorry guys, Im just a bit fired up tonight. Especially at MikeM.

No worries mate. Welcome to the forum. I'm in architecture myself so if you have any Q's about what its like just u2u me.
Before you start the project, be realistic about how much $$$ you have and how much you can spend and factor in running costs. Like others have said,
you can learn a lot by just searching this forum and other forums. I still can sit around for hours just trawling through old posts on forums.
p.s don't bump up 3 year old posts like the "Welcome to the tech forum" one where you just replied "this is a really old thread".
Well how am i suppose to ask how to use the search function if i don't even know that it is there?
I had no idea. Therefore, the only method of obtaining info was to ask. Yet again, people make assumptions that everyone is born perfect and everybody
knows everything. so you stf..up and realise that some people are new to this forum gimmic, and that somewhere along the line, they have to learn
these things. (without people jumping down there throat of having a friken massacre)

My last post is refering to phat rat Insano Dub Head, so its not to offend anyone else.
Hey Che Castro! Nice to have an architect to look up to (a role model). So hows the career? Is it more art orientated then graphical?
