Should I get a master cylinder manufactured in the Fatherland or Partyland? The price difference is about $100. I've had Brazilian brake hoses before
and you could see the quality difference.
I've been told by a few VW shops that they've had no troubles with the Brazilian masters too...
so, what should I buy for my 54?
I wouldn't touch Brazilian. I used to get their wheel cylinders, but I never got the same life out of them, as I did with German. The German one's
last heaps longer.
Rob...
Brazil Hydraulic brake stuff is fine /Varga..
but the brazil brake drums are crap
so its like $70 for brazil vs $170 for german. go german/quality for these essential items. ive used a mix of mehico & brazil wheel cyl & master cyl (but with good aussie flex & solid lines). i am ru-ing the folly of my tight arse tuesday ways....
just save the hassle and get it rekitted....
rekitted?

I have just bought 6 brake cylinders from PBR in Adelaide, they are made in spain but they re-sleeve them with stainless bits and they are great. Also
they had them in stock for an early split whose brakes were differant after 63.
Cheers

The current one I have in my 54 is a Varga branded one from Brasil (isn't the Varga Girl Zippo's mascot icon?.. anyways...) "rekitted"- yeh, I
presumed it meant resleeving it etc. The quote i got for resleeving it was nearly the same as a new german master, so, I've listened to the tribe and
ordered a german ATE master.. just one less thing to worry about in the long run I suppose. I compared a brazilian brake hose to a german one: when
held out horizontaly by one end, the brazilian hose would droop way past 45 degrees from the horizontal plane. The german one however, had
considerably less flex than this. hmmmm you pay for what you get me thinks....
How much did you pay Dave?
$53 each cylinder. with a 2 year guarantee.
Early kombis have 2 in each front wheel so the whole lot cost just over $300.
4 for the front and 2 for the back(the back are type 3 ones)
Cheers
Dave
Oh, I thought you were talking about master cylinders - I had my wheel cylinders resleeved for about $35 each - pretty good price I thought. Warranty
never goes astray...

will do. This german one shouldn't give me any trouble - I've used the same brand (ATE) of brake hoses and they were really good quality... presuming the standard crosses all products... fingers crossed
