Fuel guage
variant - May 17th, 2005 at 09:58 PM

I would very much appreciate some help with adjusting the fuel guage/sender on my '68 Type 3. The guage was recently replaced, but shows half full when its empty. This resulted in an unfortunate stoppage in the middle of knowhere recently! As far as I know the guage itself is ok.

Thanks...

I've checked the sender unit, this seems fine. The float device is moving freely. I've checked the earth, tried earthing it to a number of areas with no change. All the connections seem fine also.

So I am left with the guage. It will indicate fuel going down, from full to empty, its just that empty shows up as half full on the actual needle. Does this mean I need a new guage, anyone had a similar problem?

Cheers...

I had the same problem with mine and it resulted in being a bad earth on the guage where it mounts too the dash. I ended up beinding the bracket a little so that it earthed by touching the speedo also and bingo.

100% acurate.........

Tooka number of days to work this out, a frustrating couple of days too mind you. ;)
