Regarding the spring plates it depends what IRS you are going to use, if you want the recognised best(according to the Split Screen Van Club in the U.K as they all recommend it and they have about 2000 members) you would use the one made by Creative Engineering, available from Roy at Classic VW(pacific), this system allows you to keep factory geometry and you need to use spring plates from a 68-69 bay.
Other systems will cut up the standard splitty spring plate but then you are altering parts.
As far as I know a few companies here are offering IRS kits but as there are not that many people over here running them, I would go with a proven one like Creatives.

I know that Rob King (Splitbus Australia)who has used about everything to do with splits swears by Creatives stuff.
And the stuff I have had from them is THE best.
I sound like an advert for them, but credit where its due.
