Any combination with the same outside diameter as the 'correct' wheels (ie. what it was originally sold with).
Go and ask at the local tyre joint, they usually have a chart that shows the dimensions of tyres.
Stock Kombis were generally fitted with 14" wheels - at least all the '68 and later ones were. Not sure about the splitties off the top of
my head, but some of them did have 15" wheels as I recall.
If you fit a bigger diameter wheel and tyre than your car originally had, your speedo will read slow. Smaller, and your speedo will read fast.
VW speedos generally read fast anyway - period road tests always mentioned that. So fitting slightly bigger wheels MIGHT actually make your speedo
more accurate!
Check out this site:

Pick the size you are keen on and click on the specs of a common tyre and it will bring up the rolling radius and diametre (I think from memory it
does anyway). Aim to keep the rolling radius the same as stock and it won't affect your speedo reading or gear ratios.
If you choose a common tyre it will bring up a chart so you can do some comparing.
I compared the tyres I've got now to the stock size and the front (185/65/15) are fractionally smaller than stock and the back are fractionally
bigger (195/65/15).

and when you finally get the diameter correct
you find that the spring tension in your old Speedometer has reduced and your speedo still reads too fast..dratts............

thanks jeremy!!!

Hi
If you want to get it just right buy a new VDO speedo, they now use a magnetic impluse to make the speedo work, they are user adjustable, just go to
your favourite stretch of freeway with an odometer check and set it up.
The Falken website also has tyre sizes on it.

thanks steve!

Hi
Holden is way off, Ford & Valiant are a little off, but dont use them. Merc or Audi is the best bet.

ford wheels can be modified easily to fit. The audi wheels will fit but they really need to be spaced out about 1 inch so that caps fit and they look good. Well audi wheels may not all be the same but the common ones need it. Will see if I can find a pic of my mates ex-kombi with XR6 wheels.
what is the 5 stud kombi pcd??????
