OK well i am having issues with my car and how loud it is. Its only from pure luck that i haven't been pulled over. those ppl who know my car know
how loud it is. but anyway i need to be able to get it a little quieter. I wouldn't mind someway of keeping like that it is, but then being able to
add/change something to make it quieter when needed. options are
1- Get a new exhaust system from the merge back.
2- get a super trap for the end of the pipe (can you get these or similar device in a universal fit?)
3-get a full set of fully merge exractors and muffler as the old one is part merge.
are there any other options for the exhaust system?
currently it is a set of empi semi merge extractors with a 2 inch flnage, then bent 90 degrees and through a 2 inch sports (straight through, see one
end to the other) and 3 inches of pipe to form a tip.
If i want a fully merged exhuast, where and rough costs for brissy?

Why would you want your beetle to be quiet? I ran a couple of sets of thunderbirds opn my S. It's height tended to destroy them. It had a nice growl
with the quietpack muffler on it. But after the first bit of damage, went back to sounding like a bus. I mean the big sort that schoolkids ride in.
I think Mick Motors has a good range of exhausts. They used to anyway. Haven't bought one from them in a while. They're in qld too. The postage is
pretty quick.
Just be careful of the quality of systems. You tend to get what you pay for.
Is it exhaust noise or induction??

well put it this way, i have been banned form the mt cotton driver training area. as they recieve to many noise complaints when i run my car in the
evening. Its probably only a few decibels below what open pipes are. Ask gibbo, he lives just up the street from me.
its a bit of both, but i used to have the standard empi single quiet pack muffler on there and it was alot quiter. but yes some is induction roar.
I used to have real issues with a 1640 in my old beetle. I had extractors and a hotdog. It sounded nice but on the freeway it was just ridiculous. I
ended up getting a largish bypass/turbo style muffler put on it. This helped heaps. Cut the noise right down and it was livable on the freeway. The
other thing to do is have the tail pipe point at the ground. This will help with higher frequencies.
Also, what about some air boxes? Barls is building some for his type 4. That way you can run them into one point and then use one large are filter
instead of 4 small ones. Really cuts down on induction noise.
iam thinking i might try a tip which spits it downwards and also try some form of muffling, see how it goes, as i only really want it for at Mt cotton
eg 6 times a year for 4 hrs. thinking getting a 90 degree bend and putting in some plates with holes drilled in them and sandwhiched with some steel
wool. put over the end of the current pipe and see what happens. jsut got to balance the number and size of holes and allowing enough flow, but not
much noise.....
