jo_tas - May 31st, 2005 at 03:52 PM

Hi all
What kind of shock absorbers would you guys recommend for a late (irs) type 3?

I've found monroe's for $119 a pair... is that a good price?

Thanks in advance,

-Josie

Yes.. but i've heard they're very expensive... i'm on a trainee wage!!

I think you can get cheaper than that... Try calling Vintage VW Supplies in Sydney. I have had 'Cofap' brand in the past - good for a daily driver

Yes, I believe Cofap were OEM to VWs years ago....
OEM = [Original Equipment Manufacturer]

You should get a set of Cofap from Mick Motors at a resonable price... $176 set of 4 for a kombi....
type 3 should be close to that....

cheers

cool thanks.. ride is more important to me driving on tasmanian roads and being stock type 3...

So i take it that gas shocks are a more sporty/stiffer shock absorber?

Also, are the Cofap ones oil or gas?

Cofap do both... yellow are gas, black are oil (I think!). You need oil ones... unless you are a hoon!

Thanks for the help guys!

I have gas all round at the moment.....
You can get around it by having gas at the rear where all the weight is, but the front is just too light.....
I'll be changing Mine soon to oil on the front.....

as the Gas ones are Gas Pressureed All the time......

Cofap are made especially to fit old VWs..... each model....

Monroe etc probably do a compromise for all models.....IMHO

I paid less than $119 for the monroes, I think it was $89 about a 1 1/2 year ago.
