Could any body tell me how to replace the heater cables on my 57 beetle?

Thanks
Matt

You have to dis-connect them at the back (engine ) end first. But they are probably broken off already thats why you are replacing them hey!! ;)

Then undo the knurled nut thing thats under the heater control knob inside the car. You shiuld be able to pull the whole assembly up and out and you will see the cables attached. Just keep pulling and the cables will come thru.
As long as they are not rusted in the cable guides. Fitting the new ones is the reverse of all that. Feed them in from inside the car. Lots of grease to help them thru.

I got a early VW work shop manual with exploded diagrams here if you want to borrow it and copy a few pages Matt.

I was about to post the same question.

Is it the same story for clutch cables and handbrake cables?

What a prick of an idea to have it a sealed tunnel!
Cheers in advance.

Thanks for the advice on heater cables 'grey 57'.

Sorry for stealing your thread 'ovalmat'
Sounds like we are having the same delemas. ;)

make sure you get the correct length cables too - my 54 needs shorter ones than normal. Not sure which year the heater knob was moved forward to take up the slack...
