Its getting Dim at Night
NiceWhiteCar - June 2nd, 2005 at 07:33 PM

Either I am Dim or my car lights are or most probably both.
I own a 72 Fastback, and when I put my lights on I swear I am running off 2 candle power, You know what I mean the lights are on but there really isnt anybody home, just a 2 dim lights.
When I go to high beam they look like the normal headlights, Do bulbs grow dim with age or was the world a much brighter place back in 1972

Yeah good question! Can someone shed some "light" on the subject?

I'd check the contacts and connections and ensure that they are corrosion free [bright] (give them a light polish with fine steel wool) and also ensure that there is a good earth.

Fit a couple of relays on the head light circuit. Makes a world of difference because it buy passes the switch.

I used to reckon that it actually got darker when I turned on the 6 volt lights on oval window beetles I have owned. Some how sucked the light outta the sky. :thumb:thumb

Yep, clean all the terminals. One by one, pull them all off the fuse box and swicthes and give them a clean with osme emery paper. DSo the same for the headlight terminals (undo teh headlights) and the earth screws, too. Do this while drinking beer and it will take you an hour or two

Headlight harness is a good idea: $100 or so I think from 4WD Warehouse or Repco
