Roof Vents and Oil Coolers
bajachris88 - June 3rd, 2005 at 03:33 PM

Who has em', and are they a worth while investment for a baja bug?

Does anyone know any suppliers or web sites of manufacturers/installers for roof vents and oil coolers?

By roof vents, being like on the rally cars, I'm refering to something like a bonnet scoop, but on the roof to allow for ventilation in the cabin. How would one stop the rain, water, mud, rubbish and bugs flying in?

cheers,

Here's my oil cooler (out of focus, sorry). The brand is Flex-a-Lite. I bought it from a speed shop at Mitchelton (can't remember the name right now). I only put it on because my motor was running too hot. I used to have another crappier one that I had tucked in under the rear window out of sight, but it didn't work too well.

I once thought about putting in those vents you're talking about and I still might one day. They not only give ventilation when the windows are up (like when you're driving through mud), but the incoming air pressurises the cabin which prevents dust getting in past the seals (also when the windows are up, of course). To stop bugs getting in I suppose you could put mesh over the hole.

Just keep in mind low branches... that oil is precious off road :thumb

Cool, thanks guys. Yeah, the components aren't very expensive, so it sounds like a good investment for top dollar. Well, from the prices I have seen over the internet.;)
