Thinking about upgrading the headlights on my 64 notch (12v). Its probably simple but I have not done it before. Can someone give me some hints on the
best way to go and approximate costs.
Cheers
Slightly Off Topic, but still slightly On Topic
I was fed up with not being able to see where I was going at night in my Kombi cos the stock highbeam was dimmer than most car's dipped
lights.
So I just bolted a pair of 100W halogen spotlights to the bullbar and now I can see really well.
They only cost me about $40 from Autobarn, and they're round so they fit with the Kombi style. I've wired in a dash switch with a lamp, and
the relay power comes from the highbeam warning lamp so the spots only come on if highbeam is on (which is the way it has to work by law).
PaulR,
You go to Sprint or whatever your favourite auto sore is called, and ask for a set of H4 55/60w halogens with the P45t double step base (same as the
standard VW bulb base.) remove old bulbs, plug in new Halogen bulbs.
This will double your light output. Fuses, wiring all stay the same.
I have fitted the H4 seal beams that the later model VWs had fitted,
you have to bend or add some mounting points from memory but there great.
I put a set of sealed beams in my bug, makes a world of difference. I think they are the units from a Mk1 golf , I have the tabs already in my guards so I just heated tehm up and bent them in place. If not u can fab up some ones out of angle and pop rivet them into the bucket.
make sure the headlight grounds are good, and that all the big grounds (the one connected to the tranny, and the one connected from the (-) of the battery to the body.
