Hey guys,

I recently bought a recoed 1776 engine (new cylinders, barrels etc, recoed standard heads) and I was debating whether or nor to upgrade the camshaft for a bit more pep.

The engine hasnt been run since being rebuilt so I havent experienced how the engine goes currently. However the engine is destined for a new project and I will be putting a decent exhaust as well as twin Weber ICT's, so is it worth splitting the case and putting a better cam in it, or will it go OK with the standard cam? Also, as far as I know the heads are recoed but with standard valves etc, so if I change the cam I may as well change the heads also. Should I leave well enough alone and be hapy enough with the engine, or should I go the extra mile and have more grunt?

I know it's a bit of a vague question, but you guys know what I'm on about (I hope!)

If you opt for a cam upgrade, you may need other things like new pushrods, different rockers, different valve springs and different valves. It just depends on what kind of cam you'er looking at. Lumpy ones can be like a jackhammer on a standard engine. You can also shear the lobes off them with amazing ease.

With those Weber ict's you would be better off with the stock cam, to go any bigger you will need to upgrade those carbs.

Thanks guys for the replies..sounds like it's not worth changing the cam without a heap of other upgrades, so I will leave as is.
