I have an old AS41 case that I was given. I opened up the case to find that one of the rods had welded itself to the crank. I believe that this is a
result of the rod bearing getting pouded out and then spinning, blocking the journal on the crank and causing massive heat build up due to lack of
lubrication. I found bits of the rod bearing in the case (looked like wafer thin bits of flat metal).
I assume the crank and rods are shot, but do you think that the case is shot too? Would the cam, followers and oil pump be shot too with all that
metal floating around the oil system? They all look unmarked.
Thanks
Steve
Steve
only way to tell is give it to a machinist and get them to mic it out
what he said
you can tell a fair bit by looking at the case closely though, fret marks etc
send it to stan no need to go any further he will tell you precisely what its like and also the weather ,etc etc etc etc etc
steve 9 out of 10 times the case will be servicable, you will require a line bore . this will help determine if the case is true at the journals. the stock crank is a tough critter..can also be rescued but at a cost.cheers dsk steve
