HELP: noisy rear wheel sound (bearings?) on slammed bug
VWFOOL - July 3rd, 2005 at 12:10 AM

hi there
my swing axle bug has been slammed at the rear and now started to make a whirring sound from the rear wheels u can hear particularly when slowing down, but not from braking. could this be that no oil is getting to the rear wheel bearings coz of massive negative camber? i jacked up the back for an hour b4 driving today and the sound didnt seem to b there for a while but returned.
is there some way to get around this like sealed bearings?
wat damage am i doing if any?
help is much appreciated
sam

time to Un Slam

yes lack of OIL will cause this problem

Jack it up and spin the wheel does it still make the noise ???

just replace the wheel bearing with a sealed unit.

It's that easy? I don't need to worry about the oil from the grearbox/axe ltubes sloshing against the bearing and possibly mixing with the grease in the 'sealed' bearing when i take the occasional hard corner?
(just covering all possibilities here..)

my problem is solved long ago, just loose bolt on the spring plate allowing a bit of movement

mine is/was rubbing on the inside of the right rear wheel....some bit sticking out of the car is rubbing lightly on it...and when i have adults in the back, it rubs loudly.....but when its just the kids, it barely rubs at all.
