I had never thought of the potential problem until the weekend when I went to connect the speedo cable through my cb dropped ball joint
spindles.....problem is there is no hole through the spindle for the cable to pass through (on either side).
Has anyone else ran into this problem before and if so what did you do???
Cheers
Alan
The K&L dropped stubs that I had, did have a hole, it just comes through at a sharper angle from memory.
Oh crap,
I haven't even looked at that yet!
I checked with Vintage who bring in CB drop spindles from the USA and all the ones they have are drilled for the speedo cable.
Where did you purchase these from and are they genuine CB spindles ???
Purchased from CB performance - so yep they are genuine - here is an old pic of the right spindle (didn't have a pic of the left one)
See the big round shiny spindle - no hole, same on both sides. I have been emailing cb to see what I can do.
Hmmm, maybe it would be easier to use an Electronic speedo and put a transponder on front wheels. Unless you have a liking for the original speedo...
These spindles really aren't much fun, are they?!

Das,
BMW's use an electronic speedo pickup in the rear diff that controls a stepper motor that controls the needle. Perhaps you could adapt something from
a Beemer to do what you need, but I would suspect that you just have a dud and it would be far easier to sort that out.

i will bite my tongue about this.
all i will say is that we have a guy at work who we call 'the mirror' - because he is always looking into it.
that said i hope that cb arent the same, and you get an answer. i didnt get far.
good luck alan.
Hopefully it will work out - I know what you are going through Kim. Hopefully when I get my car certified this may provide some support for your case
and your engineer.
I have got a few emails back in response from cb performance so I am confident it will be sorted. But if it is a matter of me sending one back for
replacement it will cost me a fortune for freight! So we'll see what happens.
Hi
New aftermarket VDO speedos have a sensor that can be mounted on the hub, they are good idea anyway for getting the speedo accurate with custom
wheels.
Steve
maybe you have to specify to CB when ordering that you want the spindles for street use and need a speedo hole, they might swap them for you if you ring
