is there any difference between an oval beetle gearbox to a later gearbox ?? will the engine sit in a different spot? ie be pushed towards the rear more?
anybody????????????????????????????
the front mount is different
you can put a splitty front nose and selector shaft on and retain the original body mount(have to redrill the grub screw hole )
or you can replace the body mount
or you can redrill holes in laterrubber mount(this way is a bit rough)
the gearboxes are in the same place engineremains in same place
ok... next question then.... is there a difference in the engine bay size between an oval and later beetles? reason for the question is that the engine appears to sit further to the rear than the 65 beetle i had did... there is lots more room between the firewall tinware and the cooling housing. wondering if the motor is sitting further back.
The engien bays are different sizes between Oval and, say, 40 horse cars and of course, 1500s
36 horse and 40 horse are smaller, 1300, 1500 on are all wider and longer. And the engine bays in Ovals are smaller too.
You will need to modify the tin ware to fit the bigger motors in
so if i have a 1300 gearbox in an oval the engine will sit further back?
All I have to say, is working with an oval engine bay is a tite tite squeeze... I even had to take my rocker cover off to fit in my 1200...
but answering your Q, I've got either a 1300 or 1500 GB in my 54, and the 1200 doesn't sit any further back..
Thanks Chris, i guess it must be the engine bay size that makes it all look different. Will have to make some mods to my tinware to fit the rear
section in.
Damn the "to-do" list is getting big..
