The dak dak family has grown and have acquired a 1974 Beetle with engine no v772768P. Chassis 1140210795. The engine is single port.
Require advise as to size of motor I was thinking 1300 but friend who did work on it for the previous owner, said it is 1600. The vehicle has a swinging axel not Irs so I assume it is a L bug not a Super.

Any advise on engine number would be appreciated my engine listings only go to 1971.

actually if its a swing axle its a standard bug not a L or sbug

You have a '74 1300 model, its like a late model standard model, the "L" and the super both have IRS rear ends and strut fronts, yours will be a torsion bar front end.
The engine has been replaced if it is a single port, they usually have a 1300 twin port engine, with an alternator.
The engine number you have quoted is a replacement engine number issued by the RTA, not a VW number, it is probably a 1600 as 1300 piston and barrells have been NLA for years.
1300 '74 model is a nice model too, good score!

a fairly rare [not super] Beetle with torsion bar front suspension and rear swing axle.....
these did come with drum brakes on the front....
You can have these changed over to disc brake front easily, or keep the drum brakes...
Drum brakes were standard on all BEETLES sold in the USA
so they cannot be that bad...
plus You can adjust them easily too...
