Oil Level question
bobupp - July 24th, 2005 at 10:55 AM

Being a novice at VW's this may seem a simple question - but - on the dipstick there are two marks, are these the upper and lower oi llevels?
If so what if the oil is WAY above the higher level?
thanks

oil should be higher than lower mark and lower than higher mark
..

if your sump is too full u could blow a seal etc. loosen the big 21mm plug on the bottom of the sump (if type 1 engine) or whereever the plus is on other types and let some oil out.

True. too much oil kill seals.

Anyway, the VW sump doesn't have too much volume to it, so there isn't much difference between high and low. It's a good idea to check regularly too, because it can get way down below the minimum line without you noticing. The car will start to have cooling problems too when you have less oil, so it's a good idea to keep it at the maximum level.
