hey was getting my baja done by auto elect and he thinks my baja isnt a 62,,,some 62 parts dont fit,, dont know if the comp plate is even for this
car,, plate says
VOLKSWAGEN (AUSTRALIA) PTYLTD
type 114 chassis 2994027
weight lbs 2447 maxfront axel lbs 992
max rear axel lbs 1455
doesnt say anything about year either,, thers no vin stamped under the seat either,,when i took off the comp plate theres extra holes under it, so
thought another plate might off been there.....anyone have any ideas of this plate,,,,,,,,,,,,,cheers colleen:
should (sorry MUST) be a # stamped uner the rear seat near the gear box coupling inspection/access plate
scratch the paint away under the seat it will be there
will do some under seat scratching,,, but can you tell the age of the car by the vin plate i typed on my post,,,,,,,,,,,cheers colleen
from the chassis number 2994027
the car sounds like a 58 or 59
That number was built in 1960.
Some sites with chassis numbers listed for each year:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php
http://www.vintagepartsinc.com/Type1chassis.html
http://fly.hiwaay.net/~jfrohwei/vwac/changes.html
http://www.type2.com/library/identifi/kuhn8.htm
Note: that means you have a 1960 body, but the chassis (pan) could be from a different year. That's why you also need to check the number on top of
the tunnel under the rear seat.
