howdi, could someone please tell me the best mounting and how you adjust the shifter coupling to put a kombi box in a beetle ,ta
I have seen two methods of installing a kombi box,
The first is the custom offroad kit. It puts the nose cone through the stock hole in the pan. No shifter adaptor needed. Because of this the gearbox
sits with the front down low and the back up higher, so the engine and box is on a slight incline.

The second method is the Sharpbuilt method. it puts the nose cone through the lift kit. you use two couplings welded on top of each other to adaptor
the shifter. I decided to go with Mike's kit because I liked where it made the engine and gearbox sit, basically flat and high.
You can see quite a few pics on my website through the rebuild and V6 diary's.
The sharpbuilt adaptors are design to use the stock beetle mounts. You can see it in this pic
and the coupler is here
The coupler through the lift kit can be seen here
Wes,
That gearbox is just to cool. I'll swap it for mine. It comes with factory original dirt!! At least I think it does somewhere under all the other
dirt.
It's amazing what a bit of blue kill rust and a spray gun can do
Now I am impressed, from the pic it looks thick enough to be powdercoated!!
(sorry to get off topic doylo)
thanks WES I will contact sharpbuilt re the adaptor, & once again you are a mine of info for a novice like me. No worries Andy,i think its pretty flash too.
Or theres the berg adapter, where everything bolts up stock, which is what ive got. You get a replacement intermediate (?) housing and use a type 1 or 3 selector housing. It moves the engine rearward slightly though. maybe 1 inch.
