what are these??!!
Proud_Dad - July 29th, 2005 at 03:21 PM

Found these two mysterious items,
the first is hooked up to a spotty on the front that i'm planning on ripping out on the weekend. I'm not sure but i think its an inverter?? Its sitting under the bonnet on the left. Could some one tell me what it is before i pull it out.

the second bit is in the engine bay.
What is it and is it a big deal that its not hooked up

cheers

Palms

The first picture looks like a relay. The second pic looks like the back of a radio.

Proud_Dad - July 30th, 2005 at 09:09 AM

thanks helbus,

Dont think its a radio mate, its in the engine bay, top left corner.

First pick is prob a relay, second pic looks like a high discharge coil?

pod - July 30th, 2005 at 09:56 AM

first one definately a spotty relay, should have two coils and fuses under the cover, 2nd one ????????, if it isnt wired into anything pull it out take a better pic and maybe someone can tell you what you have properly:thumb

I've seen something kind of like the engine bay one before. In one of my old '65 hillmans. It was a box with a couple of fets on the top. I was torn up over whether it was something to do with a radio or the ignition system. It wasn't connected. It kind of reminded me of the old high power ignition kits from dick smith or jaycar. I've never really understood what they did, especially considering they still used the original points.

i found this lurking under the back seat.. any ideas what this is? is it some sort of jack?nn[ Edited on 30-7-2005 by Proud_Dad ]

Anthiron - July 30th, 2005 at 03:11 PM

yeah.....some sort of jack.......its your origional VW jack. id get yourself a little bottle jack or a scissor jack if i were you.

General_Failure - July 31st, 2005 at 10:37 AM

Ahh memories. My jack was a bit broken. A real pain to use. I ended up putting a trolley jack in.

helbus - July 31st, 2005 at 06:24 PM

Personally I think the original jacks are a great idea. They are designed to suit the car properly.

kustomkool - July 31st, 2005 at 07:18 PM

The oldschool Jacks come in handy to raise a slammed car to be able to slide a trolley jack under the jacking points..
