tyre pressures ?
phil - July 29th, 2005 at 10:29 PM

just wondering what tyre pressure people are running ?
i use 26psi fronr and 32psi rear ..is that about right for 185/195s on a L bug?
it occurred to me one day at the landscape yard, watching weighbridge, that if i got a front wheel weight and a back wheel weight i might be able to calculate exact tyre pressure for the front and rear weight differential.....maybe i was thinking to hard!

Im running 17psi front and 21/28 rear with crossply's, on the 56 Beetle.
Rob...

I use 18psi front, 24 psi rear on the 70 Beetle. That is with 165 tyres

helterskelter400 - July 30th, 2005 at 01:17 AM

front 205/65/15 - 20 pound road, 10 pound or less off road.
rear 31/10.5r/15 - 13 pound road, 5 or less off road.
720kg wet incl fat controller... haha

I was using 18 front and 26 back as per specification. Any more pressure and a beetle is hard to control anyway.

phil - July 30th, 2005 at 06:14 PM

i guess i will try reducing the pressures a little.....thanks fellas

Yes way too much in the front....

18-20 PSI on the front {very little weight]

26-28 PSI on the Rear [Most of the weight]

im running 135's/165's the 135's would definatley benefit from lower pressure yeah?

68AutoBug - July 31st, 2005 at 06:47 PM

You could try 16 PSI in the 135s Damien.....

or 18 PSI Maximum .....

Cheers

is it the same for type 3's? im on stocko 165's running 36 front and rear. otherwise on a windy day on the highway i get blown all over the shop.

68AutoBug - July 31st, 2005 at 07:55 PM

I can't remember... I did have a type 3 waden variant for many years....
about 18 on the front and 26 on the rear....

they may look like they are way too low but thats what I drove on for over 20 years.....

The windscreen washer bottle connected to the spare tyre always left 18 PSI in the spare....
so VW didn't want You to have a flat on the rears.....

I suppose it is all relative to the car, tyres, driver, loads and driving getting done.

I run 44psi front and rear in my EH. Handles ace like that, but they are 45 series tyres.

killakornkobb - August 6th, 2005 at 09:32 AM

lowered my pressures and now my car handkles like a dream! (compared to how it was!!)

Thanks chaps!

phil - August 6th, 2005 at 06:01 PM

same.....reduced from 26 to 22psi in the front...4 poundmakes a difference, much better.

vern74 - August 6th, 2005 at 06:05 PM

I will take Vern down to the Woolies servo with the auto pressure guage thingie and reduce the pressure.
Thanks Guys

killakornkobb - August 7th, 2005 at 01:31 PM

steering has become hella heavy now though:) but in this wet weather can't afford to be all over the road :)
