Crazy electricals!!!!???
marty_08 - July 31st, 2005 at 08:26 PM

Hi there ppl,

Just purchased and installed the Accufire elctronic ignition points replacement kit a my Type 1 1600TP in my buggy. Whilst installing it i've come across a strange situation.

Installation instructions say to connect the red to the +ve terminal of the coil and the black to the -ve terminal of the coil. Pretty standard stuff i'd thinks, but not ini this buggy!!! Tried to start her up and no spark!!!! reviewed everything 3 times then after some time i thought maybe i'll swap them over b/c the old coil-to-dizzy/condenser wire was on the +ve instead of the -ve before the install. So reversed the wires and the engine sprung to life!!!!

Questions:
Is my coil labelled wrongly?? Even though the +ve and -ve are moulded into the base of the bosch coil!!?

Is the Accufire wiring wrong??

Is it possible for something else to be wrong that is causing the coil to work 'backwards'????

The buggy was all wired up when i purchased it and it appears to be a poor job that was done by a blind man (all the wires are bloody green - must have been on special!!) so anything could be happening!!

Thanks in advance,
Marty

Thanks mate, and the photo of the instructions were the exact ones that came with mine.

After reading them on there again, it says to plug the red wire to the 'ignition' side of the coil (or +ve side).

Do you think that my ignition wire is plugged into the -ve side which is making the coil work 'backwards'????? Is this possible???

Will try to get some pics tonight to hopefully show what i mean (and that i'm not crazy and blind!!!) hahaha

Had my brother double check me in case i had been looking at the engine too long and had started seeing things!!!!

You will attain a greater spark by wiring the coil around the correct way.... Positive to Positive + IGN...
NEG to distributor.....--

Once You have the electronic ignition hooked up the correct way.... You should notice the difference...

Best Of Luck... Good day to Graham too.....
