Oil Temp sender connection
Bizarre - August 5th, 2005 at 09:00 AM

I was given an oil temp gauge set up the other day.

Just cant quite work out the sender.

Obviously it is a dip stick type but the lug at the top appears to be connected to a plastic clamp. Ummm obviously no current flow there

I havent played with a multi meter yet - just trying to cheat and get a head start - does anyone have one of these
if so - how is it hooked up??

Take it is out of a bug? Looks to short for a kombi.looks to me like only one wire? That will go to the guage or what ever you are using and the body of the stick will be the earth. so the guage or whatever will need 12v or 6v? and that should be that.

Yes - it is out of a bug

What is confusing (and i said i havent olayed with my MM yet) but the lug that is connected is connected to a plastic clamp. So that aint going to conduct nothing

Hmmm...maybe the bent bit of wire was held to the signal wire by the lug, and it was just clamped their to hold it in place.

Will hook up yo some water on the weekend then??

just grab a multimeter and connect it up.. one lead to the wire other to the outside of the dipstick. see what you get.

Hi

Thats the Berg style one, just run a wire over to the oil pressure light switch, when your oil gets hot or you loose oil pressure the light comes on. What would you do if your oil light came on when driving? Stop, check oil level, if that OK disconnect the wire from the temp sensor and see if the lights still on.

A proper gauge is a much better idea.

as long as you didn't wire them in series. wire in parallel for that to work.

Hi Barry

My mistake, in the pic it looks like an old Berg one.

Hi Barry

That little bug of mine came with oil and amp gauges. but I pinched some you beaut speco gauges (one oil and the other temp) of one of the cars from work. Oil gauge converts sweet reckon the temp one is worth whileputtin in?
