Stainless Sleeves in brake cylinders
matara - March 10th, 2003 at 08:52 AM

I'm getting stainless sleeves put into the master cylinder and slave cylinders on my 356. Can anyone advise me of a place to go to in Sydney, and roughly what it would cost! (The master is the same as a 64-67 split bus master).

Thanks

Steve

Steve, my experience is that any brake & clutch workshop will offer the service but they all seem to need to send them out because it's a few days before they're ready. This means there is a specialist or two out there somewhere. Costwise, I have found they cost as much as or even slightly more than a new cylinder. But, bearing in mind they will outlast both me and you it doesn't matter. Furthermore, the nature of the intermittent use we give our cars also means that new mild steel cylinder bores are more likely to pit prematurely rather than wear out- something SS will never do.

I've had a couple done at Burt Bros Faifield Rd.
Was a while ago so not much help on price, think it was $70, not sure.
