Beetle rear wheel track & Type 3 brake Question
Special Air Service - August 22nd, 2005 at 09:46 PM

A couple of questions for you readers.
1) Can anybody tell me what if any difference there is in rear wheel track between BJ/Swing Axle Beetles and BJ/IRS beetles?
2) How much does a Type 3 brake conversion add to the rear wheel track?

I want to buy some new rims but want to make sure they are going to fit in with my current set-up and also the changes I want to make in the future.

Cheers

Hi

The type 3 brakes make your track a few mm wider. Im pretty sure the track was the same on BG & IRS bugs and numbers quoted by VW would be affected by ET. I have a 1303r in the air at the moment that has a type 3 conversion on the rear, how about I measure drum face to drum face for you?

Steve,
Yeah thats probably what I really need to know ,the difference between that measurement on an IRS Bug & a Swing Axle Bug (if any) as I am trying to determine if 7x16 Fuchs(ET23 I think) will fit under standard gaurds on my swinger and then if they will still fit if I change pans later on. If not I'll have to go 6x16's on all four corners.

I have u2u'd CT and from his information I have decided that if I go with the Fuchs I will be going 6" on all corners as there is a degree of interference with the guard lips that I would have to over-come if I used 7"
Thanks for your help steve
