2L Gearbox is in the splitty which means the cvs are a little bit too long. Do I machine the splines a little bit longer or cut a bit out and reweld
them. What welding rods which I should use for the CV material?
Cheers Tom
Hi,
Machine the shoulder down the spline so the CV's go on further.
How much to long are they ?
You may get away with using short side auto axles
Don't weld your axles....
Around 15mm too long. However I will measure accurately soon.
geez just get it finished already!!!!!! :P
As long as your not doing anything structual welding should be ok. We used to do it all the time to rebuild splines on Magna shafts. They always tore splines off when gatting the race off the shaft AND we had the correct tools most other companies would grind three notches in the shaft which could have led to structual damage. As long as you have a steady hand and some splines lft you should be able to make your own from adding a little weld and using a SMALL cut off disk on an air die grinder. The easyest way to help things along is have a spare sacraficial race you can belt onto the shaft correcting any small mistakes and to check your going ok and dont have any "slop" Unfortunatly I now have a poor memory and can not remember what type of rod we were using. You may also want to go the easy way and give the details of what you want to a CV remanufacturer you can trust and ask them to do it. I used to love that sort of work.
Does anybody know how much shorter the auto kombi cvs are?
tom
About an inch...it is the left one.
