Notch won't go
boowoogum - October 19th, 2005 at 10:31 PM

Decided to take my Notch for a drive on the weekend but it wouldn't start. It was running ok when I parked it about 2 weeks before. I tried again this afternoon without success, checked the basics: eg can hear fuel being pumped when I activatate the throttle (quarter tank of fuel) Spark/current at the points, coil throws a spark when the points are opened manually. I'm stumped.

The points must be able to open by themselves to send spark to the spark plugs....

You need to check the gap with the points open....

0.4mm is the points gap...

This needs to be checked at every oil change...
to keep the engine at peak power etc....

Thanks Lee....I checked the points gap initially. It was my first "port of call". Any other ideas. It definately "sounds" like there is no spark,i.e. no coughing/spluttering etc. Still stumped
