Hi,
I've been told that my beetle (6V) needs to have a 6V choke- and it is fitted with a 12V one. However, until the mechanic told me this while the
engine was being rebuilt, the car was starting just fine. Now he's awful in the mornings! Is it possible that a 12V choke will work equally well in
the car (is there such thing as a 12V vs 6V choke?)?
Thanks
G'day morris_53,
Yeah there are 6v and 12v chokes and it is marked on them beside the connection piont. If your car still has 6v electrics it would be best to have a
6v choke as the 12v one would operate at a different time rate. Go to the local VW places, they're bound to have a box of old carbys that would have
a 6v choke and buy the bit and swap it over. Depending on the climate where you live as to how much choke you need so adjust it accordingly. In some
areas a VW can operate with no choke at all ( I don't have a choke butterfly or shaft in the Desert Splitty and it fires up straight away every time)
depending on the temperature.
Cheers, Ian.
