Type 3 breathing

Just won't to know if Iwould get better performance from my 1700, mild cam, balanced motor with extractors if I fit dual air cleaners on the solex carbs instead of the std type 3 air-cleaner. And would this upset the motor as it will now be sucking hot air from the engin bay instead of cool air in the std setup.

Any comments appreciated Nige:D

Has anyone got an opinion on this I would realy like to here from other type 3 owners who run a sports type aircleaners as to whether sucking hotter air changed there cars performance much or if it was better as the engine was less restrickted.

Help please Nige

Hey,
When i decided to put twins on my type 3, i did get some sports aircleaners but the carbs needed to be re-built. In the end i just said stuff it and got my single carb re-built. I know what i told u is useless but just make sure if u do it that you get some bloody low air filters or you're stuffed cos they wont fit under the lid.

I'm mainly worried about sucking in hot air I've seen other cars with the sports air cleaners and realize their prity small.

Cheers Nige

stick to the standard airfilter and take your carbs to a vw specialist get them checked and maybe if you want they can redrill them for bigger jets(this is what I have been told by a "expert" this is for a 1916.All the little bends and baffles in the airfilter was not put there to be pretty:cool:
