Bigger front brakes for Ball Joint Type 3
Grey 57 - October 23rd, 2005 at 09:47 PM

Thnking about getting some bigger brakes on my T3 Karmann. I have re-drilled for T3 disc's on at the moment. Re-drilled to fit Fuch's wheels. What will fit right on and give me the right wheel bolt set up for my wheels?

Will early 911 Porsche front rotors and calipers bolt on??

I have heard that Volvo 244 series 4 piston calipers will fit with just 1mm spacer washers on the mounting. I'm yet to confirm this to be true though? Anyone done this?

Hi Dean

Im pretty sure your car would have the early type 3 rotors & calipers, you can fit the ones from a late type 3 if you change the stubaxle, these used a bigger pad with a slightly bigger rotor.

No - but I had had a close look at 4cyl Volvo callipers (6cyl are vented brakes) when I was designing my big brakes. I decided on a Commodore calliper - but I think what you are saying could be right

Cheers for the answers guys. Steve how can I tell tyhe diff between the early and late T3 discs? Really not sure what mine has.
What about the rear wheels, what are the disc brake options. 944 Porshe?

Think that I might just go right thru and o'haul the brakes first, new pads and shoes, get the discs skimmed and see what that does first.

Hi Dean

The late type 3 rotors were from a Type 4, they were slightly larger in diameter. The early stubs and calipers had a smaller centre for the caliper bolt holes and used 10mm threads, the later ones had a wider bolt pattern and I think 12 mm bolts. The rear, I guess the Falcon would be OK, 944 give a track increase.

The early pads were like this,

and the late ones like this,
