rear brake solution... possibly
DIY-DUB - October 29th, 2005 at 08:11 PM

has anyone considered, or is it possible to get say an IRS arse end of a falcon/dunnydore and pull the outer axle section from that, so from the outer cv joint, to the disc and bolt that to a stock vw cv? if you get what i mean anyway...
again not sure if this is possible but i cant think of why it couldnt be done if the sizes matched up, dont knock my idea either, CONSTRUCTIVE opinions appreciated however

"and bolt that to a stock vw cv? "

nah..... nothing mates.

People do use the EB Falcon setup (disc and caliper) but a whack of fabbing and machining goes into it.

Lets just say if you cant bolt a Ford to a Holden then bolting it to a VW..... well...................

you mean use the outer CV and stub axle from a falcodore into the beetle control arm (or whatever its called)

could possibly work,

except then you still have to machine up or find bearings to suit the falcodore shaft into the VW suspension, then fabricate caliper brackets, figure out how to mount the handbrake shoes onto the VW setup, etc. etc.

probably more expensive and work than just doing the usual EA style discs and calipers. although doing it the long way you end up with easy to change brake pads...

thinking deeper, it jsut really means you ned to modify the bearings rather than machine hubs.

ok (dons flame suit) but to my knowledge commodores and falcons dont have cv joints they have a diff and solid axles like most rear wheel cars. the only cars that use cv joints are those that are front wheel drive and subarus.

The Holden is IRS and yes I have seen the set up you are asking about in a off road racer .You would be better off just going this way .

This is a Ford EA , with a custom made disk & hub from V force Alex can price it for you .

not flaming, just explaining :)
commodores introduced IRS as an option around VP I think, and by the time VT was new, all commodores including utes had IRS on them, however the new tonnet and crewman utes have gone back to leaf springs and solid axle.
Falcons made IRS optional for the AU series, then revised the setup and made it standard on BA sedans. wagons and utes stayed with leaves and solid axles.
