carnt get second gear!

ok doky on my way over to drop my bug off to my mates place who is painting it for me, i couldnt get second gear on change down as i got further through town it got worse even to a point 1st was starting to get hard to find, dosnt seem to be making any bad noises, clutch or gearbox?
any ideas

did the clutch free travel at the pedal change? clutch cable maybe?

did u mean change no, free travel is that the travel between floor and friction point ?
friction point is at the same point as before

have you checked the linkage under the back seat

plate at gear stick may have moved a bit

No free travel is between the rest position of the pedal to the point where it actually starts operating the clutch. The part before the pedal has much resistance.
Not enough and the clutch will be riding the thrust bearing all the time and if you suddenly have too much the cable is usually about to break (stretched) or the clutch fork has bent etc. you wont be able to engage the clutch fully hence crunching gears.

went around this arvo.. couldnt wait till 2morrow was late 2 dinner (missus wasnt impressed) the rubber thing that sits inside the linkage was stuffed, nearly all dissapeared
very sloppy hehe had a laugh and a beer with my mate
start dissmaintaling 2morrow for paint

hi deon did that fix the problem?

my bug has lost 4th. I can still use 1 to 3, but when I select 4th it is the same as neutral. there is nothing there! simply disappeared

anybody know what it could be? I've checked the linkage underneath the rear seat, not that. I hope it's something simple, my uni budget is at $0 and now the car's dead!

why are you painting it dickhead? it looked the goods!! just doing a respray or colour change?

my mates leaving town at the start of the year and i really wanted him to do it before he left, because his good, and doesnt cost the earth colour change and what coulour will be a surprise..........
