Service Due display not resetting
Golfer99 - November 3rd, 2005 at 01:10 PM

Hi all,

I just got my Golf 1999 serviced (this is the first one I have done since I bought the car earlier this year).

Basically, I took the car in for a service after the "service due" message appeared on the dash.

My problem is that they could not get the "service is due" message to reset after servicing. He mentioned that he tried the "normal sequence of things to do" but to no avail.

Has anyone had this problem before / anyone have an idea to reset??

My last option will be to take it to aVW dealer but I really am counting the $$$ at the moment...

Thanks in advance.

I have the same car.

A 99 Mk IV golf and had the same problem.

It had been serviced by the dealer before i picked it up and they didnt reset the light.

Anyway... i had to take it to my mathe that works at a dealer and they got some computer box out and reset it.
BUT
It took them several goes at clearing the codes.
Appears it is not a matter of pressing a button.

Sorry - only a dealer can reset it

That said - when i rang the dealer to say what is going on, they said..."sorry - we will reset it next time"

I dont believe it is a problem - IF the car was serviced properly

New VW's apparently reset by holding and turning anti clockwise, the tripmeter knob on dash. Do this while turning ignition on..

A golf does not require the computer to reset, only some earler A4's etc do.

With ignition off, hold in button on the right on dash panel, keep held in and turn ignition on to reds, Service indicator should appear, now twiddle the one on the left until it says ----- or service in 15000, cant remember which on a golf without one in front of me.
that should be it! you may have to push or pull the one on the left while twiddling, i cant remember, just have a few goes and youll work it out.

hmmm ..... i was watching and this isnt how they did mine???

Mine is a 1999 Mk4 1600 - would it be the same???

My dash looks slightly different - dont have full circles for temp and fuel and dont have analogue clock in tach, have digital.

there a couple of different types, depending on engine size, can post it up if you rearly need it!

that pic says it better than i did. The computer CAN be used to reset the displays and also change the intervals it will appear, maybe someone arsed your settings up previously?

Your only resetting the counter . If the counter is not set properly then the service light will remain active until counter is set factory specs
