Hey all,
I bought a new engine lid lock for my Beetle. It's a 3 screw like the old one, so it should have been a simple thing of swapping them over, right?
Well.... I took the old one off and put the new one on, it clips shut ok, opens fine, but you think it wants to actually lock with the key? No!
When the lid is open, the key locks it fine. When shut, the key won't lock. I put a couple of washers as spacers between the inside lock bit and the
engine lid to see if that helps, and it doesn't. I noticed that the lock button sits out a bit further when the lid isn't shut... but when it's
shut the button is in a bit and nothing I've tried makes it sit out that little bit so the key can lock.
Has anyone else swapped their original engine locks over for one with a key and had this happen? What did you do? What should I do?
try adjusting the rubber stopper in the body
It will be the position of the lock and the tab on the car.
If it is locking/unlocking when the lid is up and free then you will find the latch is not fully "relaxed" when the lid is closed.
You will need to "bend" the latch towards you (i think??) so as it
can "relax" properly and the key to work
what barry said - the adjustment is in the tab on the body.. but dont go back and forth like i did when i put standoffs on, then took them off a few
tims.. my tab broke off :S
certainly dosent lock now
Eeek, I don't want the little tab to break off! :duh So I bend it towards me.....??
too many ambers.............. have to think about this
If it comes forward it should give it more room to disengage.
Just get a solid pair of pliers - no twezers
Get a good grip near the base and just give it a nip forward. Gauge the next step by the reaction
Alrighty then, shall try it tomorrow.
