Highbeam on kombi
vwtrev1 - November 6th, 2005 at 05:03 PM

The highbeam on my kombi left side only will not go. Over the past few weeks it has gone intimittanly sometimes for a couple of days sometimes only the once. The switch on the steering collum appears to be working as it operates the right headlight OK. The relay at the fuse box is clicking in and out OK.Antbody got any ideas whats wrong?

bad earth, water on your terminals in the headlight, broken wire

loose connection at the headlight bulb, or dodgy bulb....

I'd go for the dodgy globe. I had the same thing happen to me on a non-VW. I'd guess that the filament must occasionally touch and temporarily weld together. Pretty easy to check - take the globe out and look at the filaments! Don't touch the glass if it's a quartz halogen globe or the oil from your skin will bugger the globe.

Thanks for the replies I fixed the problem was a dodgey fuse which checked out ok with my test lamp/ go figure.

I had a similar problem with a fuse that allowed enough current through to show 12v at the tail light but not enough to light the globe. As cheap insurance I replaced all the fuses and what do you know one of the old ones fell apart as I removed it!
