Problems Problems Problems...

I recently have installed a pioneer CD player in my 71 Beetle.... Its great but then i find that i have no Headlights.... I fixed that...

But....
I drove the car today in the rain and the winscreeen wipers stoped working.... I Kept driving, and smoke and really smelly fumes Filled the car... The wiper fuse had gone and the wiper motor was RED HOT....

The swith for the wipers has also stopped working...

The CD casing was shorting the switch....

What can i do to prevent this from happening..

Yikes... sounds yukky!

Make sure the back of the cd player isn't touching anything it shouldn't be, and triple check that all wiring is where it should be especially on the fuse panel thinga.
I can't remember which fuse mine is located on, but I could let you know (if that'll help) as we did move it from where it was originally wired to.

When my bf and I installed my cd player a while ago, we found that the wire for the power to the wipers was completely cut in half.... yet my wipers had been working fine the whole time! Hence my signature below... ;)

Insulation tape is your friend!

I had the same problem with my wipers coincidentally a 71 super. Check that the radio casing is not stopping the wiper arm from moving and also glue a piece of insulation thin piece on top of the radio casing.
