Yo all,
I have a 1968 beetle and i was driving home it was fairly hot i accelerated and the (g) light in the speedo came on, i am guessing this is when their
is a ground somewhere on the car is this correct? And how the hell do i track it down?

Or it could be that your genie belt has broken !!!Check it before you drive anywhere else, because it it is borken and you keep driving you will over
heat the engine as the cooling fan works of this belt as well
Marc
Probably would be the Generator light. Either a wire has come off, the regulator has a problem, the generator has a problem, or the generator belt is slipping. In any case, you will end up with a flat battery if you don't have it rectified soon.
Nah genie belt seems fine and isnt slipping
Generator light hmmm doesnt sound good sounds expensive :P
Can i just put a voltimeter on the generator and check thats its giving out 13v or whatever it should be? or yeah?
should i hitit with a hammer :P

Pete has a good list to go through there. Before you get the voltmeter out, take the top off your regulator and check that the points aren't grounded to one side. If they are, get yourself a spacer and separate it. You could have had a grain of sand that has glassed itself across the gap, seeing that it happened so sudden.
aint red generator and green oil?
if you know where the oil pressure switch is located ( under dizzy on engine case), take the power terminal off there and earth it out with the
ignition on.........which light comes on??
Top up the oil :P
G is the generator light. When mine came on while driving, it was the little things inside that needed replacing (bushes or brushes, can't remember
what they're called! :P).... all has been good since.
Better fix it soon, as has been said already, you'll have a dead battery if you don't!
Hmm the light went off yesterday night and was fine untill10 minutes ago when i turned right :P then bing it came back on. Are these brushes
expensive? and would one be able to do it himself?
Might also make note this is an semi-automatic beetle
Also not sure if this has anything to do with it but when i got home whenever i accelerated and just took my foot off the pedal i got a sort of squeal
not loud but loud enough to hear? related or nothing?
