A few more turbo questions

G'day folks I have a few more turbo questions
First off would ether of these turbos be suitable for a 1600-1776 turbo setup?

Also I recently got Turbomanina and have been reading through it and there are a few things it neglects to mention, can you run their jet enrichment system (the one the uses a dellorto jet to enrich progressively with boost) and can you use a BOV on a draw through system?

Draw through systems and blow off valves = fireball. With the mixture full of fuel it's an accident waiting to happen if you vent it to the atmosphere in a hot engine bay.

I'm not sure about those turboes, but if they are watercooled, you either need to make up a separate water system to cool them, or find an oil only turbo.

Does a water cooled turbo really need the water hooked up? I was told by a turbo specialist that it isnt neccesary. What cools a non watercooled turbo?

Draw through systems shouldn't need a blow off valve. The turbine spins in a vaccum when the throttle plate is snapped shut, as it is between the throttle plate and the heads. The turbo will ideally need a carbon seal (positive pressure seal?) to prevent oil from being sucked out of the bearings when its under vaccum (ie when the throttle is snapped shut).

I have read about people just leaving the water cooling lines open and ignoring them. I suspect this may shorten the life of the turbo if you run it hard (ie hot) a lot. your alternative is to experiement with some water lines and a washer tank of water and see if convection helps cool things, failing that a pump and a small heater core setup.

Oh and I forgot to say Turbo mainia is a little light in a number of areas, have a look for the authors Corky Bell, Graham Bell and Hugh MacInnes at the Library or a book shop. Much better info and better layout without getting lost in the technical detail.

ok so no to a BOV, the n12 turbo looks good as the early models were oil cooled and the stock wastegate is set at 7psi. I think I will worry about water injection later on when I need/want more boost :dork:
