Hey there ppl,

Was needing to know if there is a way of determining what type of oil pump is fitted to a 1600TP in my buggy???

At the moment it's one with a filter and i'm trying to change to one without the filter. This is b/c i'm having a 4-1 merged exhaust costom made and need the room to run some exhaust piping along there to avoid large amount of engine caging!!!!

When i rang a place to ask if they had one in stock they ask me "Is it a flat cam gear or cone cam gear oil pump??? And what size (in mm) is the gearing (or may have been the size of the end of cam shaft....???) 8mm or 12mm (i think)????

Any help in working out what it is with pulling the old one as i only have time to buy it tommorrow then fit it on friday!!!!

The eingine's a bit of a hybrid too so not much info to go on!!!!

Not without pulling it out.

One is an older style - and i cant remember which.
I will almost certainly be the latter.......... ummm.... flat ??? style?? (he guesses)


Guess the best way is to pull it out and take it along??

Do you need it to drive to the shop?? - or can it sit while this is done??

i can let it sit, but i can need to get the part today so i can install it after work tonight then take it to the exhaust place on friday.

Guess i'll have to postpone the exhaust til after the wkend. bummer

If it is a stock pump with one of those aftermarket covers with a filter attached, you don't need to remove the pump just the cover as the filter is attached to the cover There were only two types of covers, one for early 6mm studs and one for 8mm studs. Just measure the stud size. Chances are if you have a late 1600DP, it is a 26mm pump (which only fits a dished cam) with the large inlet and outlet holes and 8mm studs. The internals of the pump and type of cam don't matter for changing the cover.

If you are running a filter pump chances are it will be for a flat 3 rivet cam, 99% of all aftermarket cams (Engle Bugpac etc) are for the 3 rivet pump.
You will have to replace the whole pump as the filter pump oild pumps are different to the non filter oil pumps.
