has anyone come up with a solution to the heater channel problem, liek running somethign other than a metal tube inside the sill for the original style operation or had any sucess with an electric heater type thing in the front running thu the dash vents, just brainstorming / contemplating mods to improve this while i cant do any dirty work
What heater channel problem? The stock system works, doesn't it?
The pics below show what I've done.
We don't get too cold here during winter so heat is not really an issue. You're in Qld so I'd be guessing heat is less of an issue.
My engineer said you don't need heat, just forced air .
The fan is out of a kombi, the ducting is A/C hose from our local bus manufacturer. It works really well. I use it as a cooling fan when I don't want
the windows down. It works so well that it blows the old wasp nests out of the heater channels through the dash vents and into the car!
don't u need em to bolt the body to the pan? I dunno. but anyway..
Be great, if these days, they made fresh ones, but with a plastic coating on the inside, like PVC stuck to the edges, be hard. Anyone make any
stainless heater channels?
thanks astro once i realised what the kombi heater thing was i thought it may be an option, mite try find one cheapfrom a wrecker and have a play around to see what i can come up with, oh yeah how loud is the thing? just considering mounting locations
chris the heater channel is a metal tube type thing that sits inside the sills that the pan bolts to, go find one at a wrecker and stab the side and you will see, or flip up the back seat and the tube comin out of the side is the end of it, im just trying to avoid the whole heater channel then sills the pillars then the rest rusting out issue again
seems to be a real B!7ch. Feel a lil' sorry for ya,
Lol.
But anyways, goodluck. I got work, i better get ready.
It is no louder than any other cooling fan set-up in any other sort of car.
It appears no louder or quieter than the fan in our VT Dunnydore or my Suzuki Sierra.
thanks astro, looks like im goin kombi hunting @ wreckers soonish then
I still don't understand what "problem" needs to be solved? Why isn't the stock system good enough?
Do you need any filters/dust extraction on the intake of that fan?
that the originals suck, and are utterly hopeless in demisting type thing, and if theres no hot and cold air/metal in there theres less chance of it rusting in the future. you may not think this is an issue but i feel it is and wish to address it, admitedly it would help if the originals are functioning properly, but still i feel its worth my while looking for a better alternative.
can't you get special tinting on the windows these days that help demist?
(hence why if i remember, they took out one of the ADRs about having demisters about say 4 to 6 months ago)
[Don't count on that though, I am relying on my memory with this, and using my memory during a holiday doesn't work all the time, Lol]
here we go,
QUOTE:
"ADR 15 - Demisting of Windscreen
The function of this Australian Design Rule is to specify requirements for standards for equipment to maintain the windscreen clear of 'Mist' so
that driver's 'Forward' vision is not obscured.
This rule will cease to have effect from 1 January 2005.
"
Unless u still wanted the heater channels for heating, you don't really need to use them for demisting. But u live in QLD Ipswich, wouldn't get too
cold there, would it? u would still needt he heater channels of course. Even if you don't use em.
heres a little something 2 remove confusion!
the heater channel is INSIDE the sills! the sills are where the bolts go 2 mount the body to the pan.
