Press this out?

All,
I'm dismantling my spare semi-auto and the clutch carrier is resisting my efforts to knock it out of it's bearing.

It seems pressing it off maybe my only option. How much of a load do you think the converter housing can take?

I wouldn't want it on a 60 tonne jobbie........

Maybe ask to try 2 T then 5 and no more?

For now, it's soaking away in penetrant.......

Ray,
I had a look this arvo and the penetrant level was much less. It came off after not too many smacks with a metal hammer on an aluminium drift.

Don't you love that? Rubber Mallet........not in this life....

I was thinking of how to support it and your idea sprang to mind, but my alternative to get the support closer to the centre was to machine four steel posts with aluminium ends welded to a flat plate and run these through the access holes in the carrier plate.

Luckily, not needed...although after washing the housing it looks like I may be up for machining the trans to engine mount face flat and making a sandwich shim for between the engine/trans to space it out again.
