Warn out case? (type 4 motor)
Andy - March 29th, 2003 at 10:28 AM

What are the chances of saving a type 4 (2L) case if there is ~1-2mm radial movement of the crank?
Are the journals likely to be flogged out, or will a new set of bearings fix it?
Also, does anyone align bore type 4 cases and do a good job? $?? and are oversize bearings available?
Thanks,
Andy

generally type 4's don't get flogged out cases like the type 1. You can read here for more info

http://www.tunacan.net/t4/index.shtml

I'd probably to to find a better case if you find it is the case that is worn. I would pull it down to see where the play is

you can get them line bored, however oversize mains are difficult and expensive to get. Better off looking for a good std case

If you need one, I have a mint fuel injected 2 ltr case, with new main bearings and a mint std std crank, $400.00 the lot.

Thanks all for the info. I have accumulated a few type 4 motors of late, so I'm wondering where to start!!
There will be more questiones to come as I get into them!!
Thanks for the offer on the case Dave, just I prefer to have the mechanical fuel pump (I have dual carbs).
