just exploring all possibilities. the idea of not adjusting valve clearances and on the later 2 litre engines with hydraulic lifters can rev higher.

I thought it was the other way round. Hydraulic lifters are generally not used on performance engines as they cannot rev as high? I think the fact that type 2 can rev higher is more likely due to a stronger case, crank, valve train than just the fact they hav ehydraulic lifters.

But I could be wrong.

only quoting what i read in advert, thats why i asked the question, after some fedback if it is worthwhile and the benefits.

There susposed to run quiter and dont need adjusting

But it wouldnt be a VW unless there was noise and you had to do a few adjustements every few months or so.

Hi there, yes the Mex engines use them and i can speak from exp. that they suffer from clatter when the engines get a few miles up. They are the same diam. as WBX/type 4 and the cases are much thicker at the lifter bore. (Some new Brazilian cases are cast thicker here too and could be machined out if you really want them.) Regular cases can be machined out but lifter bore becomes too thin for reliability.( Thats what B Bergmann used to do). The "Slip In" hyd. lifters sold by CB Perf. and others aren't much chop either. I wouldn't recommend them, especially for performance applications. Hope this helps

i had them in a 2 litre bus engine with a mild cam , they were nice and quiete and as vw 54 says they dont need adjusting they seemed to be quiet ok
i am no pro but i think you are better of without them , as i have just recently learnt the tappets adjusting is not to hard for anyone to do and you will have the added benifit of recording the measurments so you will know exactly whats going on in there , with the hydrolic lifters i believe you wont get any warning if something bad is about to happen (could be wrong).
