For he last few weeks my idle has been creeping up when I drive. I quick pump of the accelerator or easing out the cluth while stopped brings it back down. I can't figure out what the prob is. Twin Webers (no chokes)... I already checked that there is no fouls on the linkage and pedal/cable seem fine. Does anyone have some more ideas on what I can check to try and fix this problem?
disconnect the accelerator cable at the engine
see if it still does it
if it does disconnect each carbie linkage
and try again operating each carbie by hand at the same time
you have now definatly elimated the cable and linkages
if it still does it you may have an air leak
probably at one of the manifold bases
you can check this by spraying crc or a detergent at the manifold base and looking for froth(might be difficult to see in there)

Thanks guys. Will do some work on it when it's not so hot. Pretty sure there are no vacuum leaks as I re-did the manifold seals a couple of months back. Dizzy advance should be good as well but I'll check it out. I will def disconnect the cable to check it out better. I also thought that the linkage mounts may be too tight so I'll check that too - just too damn hot today!
look for an air leak in the manifold..... first place to look would be the rubber joiners

Have redone manifold gaskets so no air leaks. Have checked cables/linkages and they are all good. Timing is right as well. When the idle is high, it
is a rough idle (not quite pinging) - sounds like too much advance. Is it possible that the advance is getting stuck high when cruising then not going
down again, because this is what it sounds like to me? It is a new Brazillian 009. I heard somewhere that the springs can go, or they are crap or
something?
I guess the rotor could get stuck. - take the cap off and see if the rotor moves back and forth.
If it was that though - it would be a "snap on and off" scenerio(sp??)
If it is creeping i think it is something else.
I know you have done your gaskets - but could it be a crack in the bases??
Are the "arms" on the shafts have any play in them.
If you do the nut that holds the cam/plate that attaches to the drop arm you can have that trouble. Too tight and it binds. Too loose and the rod cant
hold a set adjustment.

Can you get the fault to occur then get out and disconnect the bottom ball joint so as the 2 carbs are in "natural" position??
Is it idling high then??
When it is idling high and bith the throttle plates in the same position??
have had the same thing on more than one occasion and has been imbalance between carbies, either linkages not adjusted correctly or problem with one of them.
Sorry - when I say creeping I mean it's fine when idling, then drive and then when you come to a stop the idle stays at about 1500rpm. A pulse on the accelerator brings it back to normal. Will have a play with carbs to see if they are right...
i will say it is the butterfly spindles.
Either too tight and binding and return to bump stop when you blip it or too loose and flopping round. When you blip it it is resting different.
Undo the bottom heim(?) joint and check for bind play. Should be free and "snap" back to bump stop with out being loose.

I used to have a problem with my kads. The accelerator cable was free to move tighter because of the way it was connected, and when i took my foot off
the pedal the linkage snapped back and the cable got caught a bit, causing it to idle at 2500rpm.
Check that the cable is not able to get caught where it connects to the linkage.
I've checked the carbs and both are returning to bump stops - even when the problem is occuring. There is no play in the spindles inside their sleeves. The linkage is fine. I will take off the filters and check that the butterflies are closing properly. I don't have a carb sync tool yet... I guess when you know very little the only way to fix things is to eliminate everything else first. Thanks for your on-going help guys, much appreciated.
If you dont have a sync tool then i suggest you dont have them balanced.
It is hard enough with one let alone with out one.
You can use a hose and listen to the noise - but even so i would suggest more experience is needed.
I could/can only set with the help of a sync tool.
