People,
I have just replaced the clutch cable in my 73 L bug, and it seems like it is too long - its drivable but only with the djuster nut all the way
forwards on the threaded end of the cable - and even then I dont have the right freeplay at the pedal.
Did VW make two different length cables ? I checked witht he supplier and they said they gave me the cable for a superbug / L bug.
Any ideas ? The pedal cluster is all in normal positions, and the gearbox hasnt been moved forwards or anything like that.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Doug

look here
http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=CFC0002&cartid=
72-74 super beetle = 2281mm
74 - 79 = 2268mm
62 - 71 beetle 2260mm
61 2250mm
Yep.... there is a difference
Guessing you got a 1302 not a 1303??

Aha..... that sounds about right.
My bug has always been a bit funny - its a 73 3 bolt super (1303), so theoretically should have the long (2280) cable..... but it definetely needs a
shorter one - if the hooks ar the same, I'd even say the 62 - 71 cable might be best (there is at least 30mm adjustment on the threaded end, and it
is right up.....)
Thanks Barry, I knew you would know this one !!!
