Rear wheel bearing removal help!!
oval TOFU - February 16th, 2006 at 06:37 PM

I have one of those stuborn bearings that seems to be stuck on the drive shaft (but not on the stub axel)... any ideas on getting it off?

I've tried
- hammering it lots
- jimmying it with assorted tools...

Anyone have a puller I can borrow? It'll need to be small enough (7mm) to hook into the inner race of the bearing but long enough to reach the end of the drive shaft (about 90mm). I'm in Blackburn South so if you're relatively close, I can come and pick it up..

Thanks
C

I think this needs a puller that grabs inside the outer rim of the bearing, ie between the balls & the rim with "hooks" that lock on to the recess the balls roll in.

Ah, it's all good now - after half an hour or so, with lots of hammering and levering with screw drivers and spanners, I got the bloody things off... hope I don't have to replace them in the next decade - they were a little tight going back on...

Thanks anyway peoples..

Ja! That's what I need! I'll keep an eye open for em.. how much did you pay?

Hmmmm. That reminds me of things I see on the tray at the dentist. That one grabs the inner race collar & that's what is stuck on the axle. Probably a better way to do it. Mine grabs the outer collar.

Nah, I didn't buy them. I just thought I'd show you what to look for. They're still there.
