Can anyone tell me how the heck to do it with a 64 1200?
i can understand how a spring works, but cant figure how a loose metal piece connected to it can make it work..... :duh
There shouldn't be anything loose. What do you mean.
Rob...
well, u have the spring which on one end goes to a finger point, and the other end goes to 2 open ends facing away from each other.
then there is a metal piece connected to those 2 arms thats loose.... i cant figure out how it fits in and still works.
ill see if i can get a pic

Well on my 6 volt beetles the finger part goes into the notch in the bracket on the firewall, the coils of the spring are at the bottom, the ends facing away from each other sit into the bracket on the decklid. EG in the same position in this following picture.
I discovered why I cant install mine and why there wasnt one when getting the car, the section where the spring goes isnt there, taking the decklid off helped, decided i'm gonna get the removable pins so i can take the lid off instead of lifting it.
You have to fit the spring loose to the boot lid first and have it off the car.
you need a mate to help you hold as well then fit the spring hoop end to the metal arm area on the car and push the engine lid down so you can fit the
hinge screws simple
but if your missing the metal arm on the under side top of the engine compartment then you have trouble
The two spring ends facing away from each other that go into the lid: do they go in the pair of holes nearest the edge of the lid, or the other pair
of holes away from the edge?
EDIT: Don't worrry, I found a pic... they go in the holes nearest the edge.
